The new Abu Dhabi Court House, awarded as second best project in 2010 and elaborated by the prestigious architectural studio Dar Al-Omran, is located north-east of Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street in the city of Abu Dhabi. The strategic position and the architectural planning capture the country’s intention to expand the spaces dedicated to justice through a morphological and functional relationship able to best accommodate future users of these spaces. The structures have a contemporaneous and modern look, and are realized according to the most updated international standards, taking into account their environmental impact through the use of rain screen and louver claddings realized by Palagio Engineering.

Palagio Engineering contributes to the realization of a complex with reduced environmental impact grace to the use of customized rain screen and louver systems. The project consists of different facilities, among which the main buildings “Court House” and “Detainees Building” for which Palagio Engineering is called to realize a terracotta cladding. The terracotta elements used, model TerraModus, have a dimension of 30×120 cm, the colour chosen is orange with a smooth extruded surface, series Terre Ocra.

Technique

The main cladding part is constituted by a louver screen which is fixed to the metal structure (Catwalk) composed by tubular elements with section 50x80mm, extruded as single piece with length up to 3 meters. Customized connecting elements in terracotta, manufactured by moulding, delimit the tubular elements and hide part of the fixing system. For this project Palagio Engineering has not only supplied the terracotta elements but was also in charge of engineering and of the supply of the entire fixing system in aluminum, both for the rain screen as for the louver portions.
